NEW YORK, February 4, 2002- Droplet, Inc. ("Droplets") today announced the availability of the Droplets User Interface Server™ 2.2 and Software Development Kit. The newest release of Droplets' flagship application platform and development tools adds new real-time alerting capabilities, wireless device compatibility and enhanced APIs for complex charting.
Droplets enables an enterprise to build, deploy and use Net-native applications that are nearly indistinguishable from desktop software in functionality, as easy to distribute as Web pages, and maintain all application code on the server. Droplets gives enterprises a Universal User Interface™ to internal and externally-deployed applications by providing global access to a variety of back-end systems and data resources, from a variety of end-user devices, through a rich user interface layer.
Droplets 2.2 Features include:
Support for Wireless Devices
Droplets has partnered with Chelmsford, MA-based SavaJe Technologies to enable deployment of the Droplets client player to SavaJe XE, the world's first mobile operating system to support the full Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE). "The combination of Droplets with the SavaJe XE Java platform extends the rich interface and high speed responsiveness of the Droplets platform to handheld and wireless devices for the first time," says Matthew Catino, SavaJe Technologies' vice president of business development. "This gives enterprises, ISVs, and ASPs unprecedented ability to deploy their applications to their mobile customers and workforce."
Net-Enabling Legacy Systems
Droplets allows rich GUI applications to be distributed throughout an enterprise and beyond the firewall without deploying driver code to clients or opening new ports back to the server. The Droplets architecture allows developers to program in a single language (currently Java or C++), radically simplifying development and deployment versus Web-based approaches, which involve creating server-side scripts, to generate client-side scripts, which generate HTML. Droplets 2.2 leverages mature tools and components available to Java and C++ developers to integrate directly with back-end systems through native drivers, middleware API's, or Web Service interfaces.
Enhanced Dripline™ alerting capability
Droplets can alert end-users to events such as the receipt of a message, a change in inventory status, or the posting of a new high bid on an online auction watcher, even when the application is closed, using the Dripline real time alert feature. With Droplets 2.2, alerts can be presented in audio, as an icon in the system tray, and now, stand-alone pop-up windows, from which users can launch the application.

"We have taken Droplets a step further by enabling applications that are truly accessible from anywhere, on any device, without sacrificing the user interface," said Philip Brittan, CEO of Droplets. "Droplets 2.2 is a direct response to customers who need to deploy new, rich services and tools to their user base without having to rip apart their infrastructure or learn new, unfamiliar development tools."
